Workshop: Hallmarks
Trevor Towner has his own sponsor's mark (formerly maker's mark) registered at the London Assay Office. The mark is TT. This mark appears on items in silver, gold and platinum made in the Trevor Towner workshop. Along with the TT mark the London Assay Office strikes the following marks:
On silver items:
the Leopard's Head - the mark of the London Assay Office
925 - the silver fineness mark
the lion passant - the traditional sterling silver mark
the date letter - year of Hallmarking
On gold items:
the Leopard's Head - the mark of the London Assay Office
the Crown - the Gold mark
the date letter - year of Hallmarking
the fineness mark
375 - 9ct gold
750 - 18ct gold
916 - 22ct gold
In 1975 a mark was inaugurated for platinum - an orb and cross within a pentagon. A piece will carry five marks, the maker's mark, the Leopard's Head, the Orb and Cross, the date letter and the Fineness mark.
